Wood Storage Shed Plans

There are likely hundreds of different wood storage shed plans available online.
Designs to please even the most discerning homeowners and well laid out directions for simple construction are what makes the top plans stand out.  Be sure to source out the best wood storage shed plan for your project.

Once you have decided on a spot in the yard, you will know the maximum size that your shed can be.  Search for plans in that size range or smaller plans that can be adapted and enlarged.  Keep in mind the flooring option you would like as well, whether that’s a concrete pad or a wooden deck.  If you would like a decked floor, you have the option of whether or not to cement the posts or piers into the ground, providing a more secure foundation.

Knowing what type of features you want will also determine the type of wooden storage shed plan you choose.  If you want a pre-hung door and manufactured windows, your plan doesn’t need to include them.  Custom doors that match the exterior siding or built-from-scratch windows will require additional instructions in the plan or separate instructions of their own.

Look at the different roof lines available in various storage shed plans.  A barn-style gambrel roof will allow for more vertical room inside the shed and often includes wider doors.    A lean-to roof is easier to build and requires a tall wall on one side.  That design may limit the placement of windows.  Gable roofs are attractive and add height to the inside of the shed while providing good water run off outside.
Wood storage shed kits are another option when building this backyard project.  Kits eliminate the need to buy lumber and parts separately and usually come with complete directions for assembly.  You may be more limited with the styles available.  Kits cannot be customized as easily as plans, you will need to use the parts included to create the garden shed as designed.  Additional features may be available, but it will depend on the manufacturer.

You may need to provide flooring for a shed kit or at least build a skid to place the plywood floor on.  Keep this additional cost in mind when considering the selection of kits.

Wood storage shed kits may be the easiest route if you can find one that suits your needs.  If not, look at the selection of different wood storage shed plans.  That way you can have expert guidance and a detailed material list to work with.  Either of these options will help you build the shed you’ve always dreamed of.
