Utility Sheds | Utility Storage Sheds
With their heavy duty, durable construction, utility sheds are a popular option for many homeowners.
They provide a handy place to store all of the tools and equipment necessary for home, lawn and garden care. If you’re looking for an easy and economical solution to your outdoor storage needs, a utility shed is just the thing.
Often made from steel, these sheds are constructed to handle the abuse of weather as well as frequent use. Some models are made with electro-galvanized steel siding, while other larger sheds use hot-dipped galvanized panels. All of the utility shed framing will also be galvanized, allowing it to maintain strength and create a sturdy building.
Finishes are varied, from a solid neutral color to an imitation wood grain applied. The walls and roof will have an enamel finish that is baked-on for durability. Quality models include a primer that helps to resist rust. If desired, you can repaint many utility storage sheds with an exterior paint that’s approved for use with metal.
Many utility sheds come without a floor and will need to have one built for proper installation. Manufacturers suggest mounting the shed to a poured concrete pad or wooden deck surface. Some offer a foundation framing kit as an accessory, designed for use with plywood and built to provide the level and square surface necessary for the unit.
Utility Shed Plans
Usually utility shed plans specify that the product needs to be mounted or anchored to the flooring. This is generally done to reduce potential wind damage and may be necessary to validate the warranty. Use approved hardware for mounting and be sure to follow the directions well.
Utility sheds are fairly simple to assemble in a day or two. Plan to have some help with the larger pieces and take the construction of your preferred foundation in account. It’s not a good idea to attempt installation on a windy day. Most utility shed kits will include everything except the foundation and the tools needed. Hardware and framing come with the shed, as do assembly instructions.
Utility Storage Sheds
Metal sheds are very economical, especially for larger sized units. Store your lawn equipment, tools and garden supplies in one place for a minimal investment. Well made utility sheds will have a warranty of 10 to 12 years and are sure to last beyond that without repairs. Maintenance is simple – use the hose to clean off the shed inside and out.
With a variety of sizes, heavy duty steel construction and simple assembly, utility sheds are an excellent choice for your tools and equipment storage needs.
