Log Cabin Plans | Log Home Floor Plans
Log cabin plans are essential if you are to realize your dream of building a log cabin.
Cabin floor plans have come a long way since the early building of cabins in the woods for hunting, fishing and hiking. The modern log cabin floor plans are more akin to log home floor plans and your log cabin can be made from logs that have not been milled into conventional lumber; rather the logs are placed horizontally and interlocking with notches on the ends.
Log houses have become increasingly popular since the early settlers in America started building them and became very popular in the 1920s.
Log Home Floor Plans
Your log home floor plans need to be adaptable and allow you to realize your dream home whether it is a simple log cabin or more luxurious log home that you wish to build. Log cabin plans can range from the simplest and most basic one room log cabin to much more sophisticated buildings and your needs will depend on your budget and what your end use is-perhaps you only intend your log cabin to be a weekend retreat which you visit when the mood takes you or maybe you want to build your dream log home.
Either way there are a number of things you will need to look out for in your log cabin plans or log home plans depending on your choice.
1. Realistic budget
Your log cabin plans must reflect your budget; there is no point having very complex cabin plans for a cabin that is only intended to be a simple rustic retreat. The single biggest determinant of your ability to stay within budget is the size of your log cabin or home.
2. Complexity of your log cabin
The complexity of your log cabin or home will be a big factor in your budget and plans-the more corners and roof ridge lines, the more expensive your cabin or home will become. Dormers, hips etc. will require much more elaborate plans than a simple rectangular log cabin with a simple pitch roof and ridge line.
3. Exterior of your log cabin
The finish of your log cabin should also be reflected in your log cabin plans and exterior choices will ranged from Adirondack, Chalet, Appalachian, Western Log and Timber, French country and many others. Your log cabin plans must make provision for the wide range of finishes that you can choose from.
4. Lifestyle
How you intend using your log cabin will determine also what sort of log cabin plans you will need and if you intend entertaining friends and neighbors then you will need plenty of room space and entertaining areas.
5. How many levels?
The number of levels you want for your log home is a critical decision to make before drawing up or buying your log home plans.
These are some of the most critical considerations you need to think about before buying or having your log cabin plans drawn up. There are many decisions to make but in the long run making those decisions now before buying log home plans that are completely inappropriate for you will save you a lot of money and heartache in the long run.
