How To Strap Down A Shed
How to strap down a shed? This can be a very important question for any shed owner who lives in an area frequented by thunderstorms, gusty winds and other such natural calamities.
Fortunately, the answer to this question is not something too difficult to handle. There are some simple steps that you can follow to do this.
The first and foremost thing to do is get a good shed tie down kit complete with anchors. Make sure that you get the wires that are long enough to tie down at least each corner of the shed. Typically these kits are not built based on the shed model or brand, they are generic kits and hence you need to find the best fit.

The next step is to fix the anchors along the four corners of the shed. Make sure that the anchors are hammered at an angle into the ground. They should be inclined away from the shed. This allows them to get a better grip of the ground. This step may require some effort, especially, if you need to hammer into tough or hard soil or frozen ground. It may actually be better to pour some water in the ground to loosen the soil slightly. After hammering them slightly, you can actually twist them to penetrate the soil easily.
The tie down kit comes with wires. Weave the wire through the skids on the shed and tie them to the anchor. This can be a bit complicated depending on how quickly you adjust to weaving the wire. Since these are generic tied down kits, the wire lengths will not be exactly how you need. You need to trim away the additional wire. Repeat this exercise on all for corners to securely strap down the shed.
You must observe all safety tips while doing this. Always wear the safety glasses to ensure your eye do not get harmed during the tie down. Similarly use the gloves while performing this action without fail. Gloves help to protect the hands during such tough jobs. They also provide great grip which allows you to handle the wire better and strap down the shed tighter.
Sheds are small storage space with a poor or most times non-existent foundation. They need protection during high winds and hence every shed owner must ask how to strap down a shed? In some counties this may be a law while in others it is just due diligence.
