Firewood Storage Shed Plans-Firewood Storage Shed Construction Plans Essentials

Firewood storage shed plans are one of the most important shed plans for people who love to spend time outdoors in the gardens.
Come spring and summer, barbecue becomes a norm and people who like roasts meat would appreciate having some dry firewood handy. But firewood storage sheds are also very useful for regular firewood for winter heating for many people who live in harsh climates and who love the smell, look and feel of a real fire and who like to cut their own firewood, season and dry it and derive the benefits for a cosy home during the fall and winter.

Things to look for in good firewood storage shed construction plans

Any firewood storage shed construction plans should make provision for a number of fundamental factors to ensure that your firewood shed does what you need it to do and that is primarily to allow your firewood to be thoroughly dried and kept that way.

There are many aspects of a firewood storage shed that one needs to focus on. Without getting the basics right, building a shed may not really serve the purpose. A good firewood shed could be the difference between easily available, ready to burn firewood and a heap of rotten wood. Here are some important points that one must keep note of.

1.       Aeration: The shed must be designed to ensure that the logs are well aerated. This will ensure that if the firewood gets wet, it will dry up quickly.  Besides, well aerated firewood will remain good for much longer period.

2.      Roof Design: The roof of the firewood shed is one of the most important parts of the shed design. It must be inclined and extend well outside the firewood storage area. This way all the water – in case of rain – will drain outside the shed and not spoil the firewood.

3.      Shed Elevation: It is imperative that the shed is created in a slightly higher altitude than the rest of the area. This will ensure that they water, if any drains away from the shed rather than collecting in it.
Any firewood shed plan that takes care of these basic aspects is a good plan. While regular utility sheds can be anywhere in the garden, the firewood shed needs to be closer to the fireplace. This will encourage people to have the outdoor lunches and dinners more often. If the firewood is not easily accessible, surprisingly many people just neglect it.

While actually building the shed you need to decide the location where you want to have the shed and choose your plan accordingly. You do not want a very long shed design, when you want to have it in a corner of the garden.

Typically sheds have one open side and three closed ones. Ensure that the closed sides face the rough weather and the wide. The open side needs to be well protected and this will ensure that the firewood lasts longer. These are some basic points that one must remember while choosing and designing sheds based on firewood storage shed plans.
