A shed roof extension can be used on your barn plans with living quarters as well.  This feature tacks an extension along one side of the barn using a post and beam structure.  The roof runs out from the Gambrel to the beam and then the space underneath can be either enclosed for more interior room or left open for a covered porch or patio.  The shed roof extension does tend to alter the look of your home from that of the traditional barn, but provides more usable living space with a simple addition to the plans.
