Barn Building Plans | Plans For Building A Barn

If you are replacing an old barn or putting up a new one, barn building plans are the place to start.
With many different layouts and ideas on how to maximize the available space, everything from a storage shed to a garage or a horse barn will be better.

Barn building plans start with basic measurements and are then adapted to suit your circumstance.  In a 28 by 40 foot barn you can fit four large horse stalls with comfortable walking space to and from the door.  Or you can park a pickup truck and some other heavy equipment and still have plenty of space to work on them.  The choice is up to you, but a starting size will need to be decided on.

Once you have a base size you can add further features, such as shed or roof extensions, extra doors and an interior designed to suit your needs.

Plans For Building A Barn

The plans for building a barn should include all of these options plus more, possibly for an additional charge or premium.  They should also include diagramed, step by step instructions, a detailed material list and easy to read formatting and language.  Some barn building plans use words that are industry standard, others use geographical terms or slang that can be confusing.  Try to look over the plans before you buy them to make sure they can be read and followed easily.

Consider the second floor options that you have with barn building plans.  Do you want a loft storage space or will it make more sense to close off the second floor entirely, normally providing thousands of feet of living space or additional storage space?
Horse barn building plans are more specific and often include the layout of stalls, tack room and wash area.  They will have a wide centre aisle or hallway somewhere on the layout and often multiple sets of doors.  If you raise other livestock you can easily adapt a horse barn to your needs, changing the pen size, the location and the layout while getting a good idea of what works for horses and the barn structure itself.

Quality barn building plans will include a typical set of elevations, possibly even customized to your landscape.  They will include where the post location should be if necessary and many other helpful bits of information.  Don’t be cautious to invest even a few hundred dollars into a set of barn building plans.  When the finished project is all you thought it would be, that minimal investment will be well worth it.
