Backyard Gambrel Roof Sheds
Backyard gambrel roof sheds are a popular choice of storage shed in many parts of the country.
A backyard gambrel roof shed is a specific type of shed that is more complicated to build than a regular backyard shed, but is also sturdier. It looks similar to a barn, but much smaller, of course. A gambrel roof shed is unique in that the way the roof is structured allows for more space. Sizes for a backyard gambrel roof shed vary from 8’ up to 16’ in width. The size of your individual shed will depend on how much space you have and what you need the shed for.
Gambrel Shed Plans
Once you have decided on the size of your shed, you will need some gambrel shed plans. Some of these are found free of charge on the Internet, whereas others are available for a small fee. Alternatively, you can look for regular shed plans and combine them with gambrel roof plans in order to make your own type of shed. It is important however, to know where you are headed and which supplies you need before you tackle such a project.
It is important to know what type of foundation you will lay down for your shed. Some people choose a cement foundation while others prefer a wood foundation. The ideal foundation for you will depend on the terrain of your backyard, as well as the climate of your area. If you receive a lot of precipitation, you might want to reconsider a wood foundation. Or if you do want a wood foundation, be sure to purchase a mildew-resistant type of wood.
Gambrel Shed Truss
When it comes to building the actual roof, you must make sure that you are very careful. A gambrel roof differs from other roofs in that it has three angles instead of the traditional one-angled roof. This allows for more space while still maintaining a slanted design. You will need to determine how many gambrel shed trusses you will need for your project. You can choose to purchase a pre-made gambrel shed truss design, or you can make your own. You will need no more than 16 inches of space between each truss. Make sure you factor the amount of trusses needed when you come to decide whether to purchase the trusses or to make your own. Again, due to the complexity of this design, it would be best for you to have a gambrel shed plan on hand.
Gambrel roof sheds are an ideal design if you need some extra space in your shed, but don’t have any extra land.
